How to 7X Your Productivity in 60 Days

There aren’t enough hours in the day.

Every day is a losing battle against my “To-Do” list

Unfinished tasks: 1, Me: 0.

…sound familiar?

Welcome to the “Struggling Productivity” club.

Now, I’ve got good news and bad news.

The good news is that I’m going to teach you how to 7X your productivity.

…but that’s where the bad news comes in.

You can’t improve your productivity without exploring the “why.”

Why you’re struggling with finishing the things you need to do…

Why you’re constantly setting expectations for yourself, and then falling short…

Why you’re constantly racing against the clock, but not moving the needle…

It's not that you're not being productive…

It's that you don't have the right tools to be productive.

If you Google “productivity”, you’ll get a pretty typical definition from Investopedia.

“Productivity, in economics, measures output per unit of input, such as labour, capital, or any other resource.”

Most people understand productivity as “measures of output per unit of input.”

But that definition is about economics.

Not business…

Not entrepreneurship…

Not real life.

This definition strips the humanity out of productivity…which doesn’t make sense because you are, in fact, a human.

So, what do you do with that shitty definition?

You think like Charles Duhigg, instead.

In his book Smarter Faster Better, Charles says productivity isn’t actually about output.

It’s about “making certain choices in certain ways,” moving away from things that just keep us “busy” and toward actual, true, genuine productivity.

And that’s precisely how we operate at The Wild Goose Chase, too.

Sure, it’s great to be busy — and busy-ness isn’t inherently bad.

But, to us, productivity is bigger than just a crossed-off To-Do list.

It’s more than moving and going and pushing without ever taking a break.

It’s a careful balance of the “now” and the “future.”

And the best part?

It only takes 6 steps and 60 days to 7X your productivity.

6 Steps and 60 Days to 7X Your Productivity

If you want to change your understanding of productivity — and 7X it, while you’re at it — again, I’ve got good news and bad news...

The bad news is that it won’t happen overnight.

Bad habits are hard to break, and good habits take time to form.

7X’ing your productivity is going to require some changes.

Some unlearning.

Some mindset shifts.

…that’s where the good news comes in.

It only takes 6 steps to do it…

And these 6 steps can radically transform your productivity in 60 days.

60 days to start forming better habits.

60 days to make these 6 steps part of a routine.

60 days to wake up and commit every single day.

Even when it sucks… and especially when you don’t want to.

Consistency. Dedication. Commitment.

6 steps. 60 days. 7X productivity.

Are you ready?

Step 1: Wake Up Early

I know what you’re thinking.

“Yeah, ok. I’ve heard ‘Wake up early’ from every other productivity guru out there.”

Sure, it’s common advice (because it works)...

But it’s not just about waking up early for the sake of it.

It’s about setting a precedent for productivity.

When you’re working hard on your business, it’s easy to be tantalised by a late-morning lie-in.

Stay in bed, avoid the responsibilities, catch up on sleep...

Succumb to the sweet siren call of your blanket and pillows…

Tempting.

But that’s precisely the sign you need to get your ass out of bed.

You can’t skyrocket your productivity from your bed at noon.

But you can when you wake up early.

Early, early.

Like before 6am early.

…yes, on weekends too.

For me, waking up at 4am is my sweet spot for sufficient sleep and maximum productivity.

There’s something about being up before the world that’s just… different.

Serene. Quiet. Thought-provoking. Inspiring.

Waking up early is your untouched canvas for productivity.

And doing it every day is the key to unlocking better productivity.

Consistency is key…

Consistency is power…

So get up.

Step 2: Refresh your Vision

Most people have a vision for their business or their life.

Something they want to achieve, something they crave.

But the truth of the matter is that your vision will change.

Your vision should change.

And you need to give yourself space and time to realign.

To refresh…

To reevaluate…

Realignment is how you remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing…

It’s an opportunity to check in with yourself and see what’s working.

But how do you realign?

It could look like journaling and reflecting...

Crafting vision boards...

Just sitting with your thoughts, pondering and meditating...

However you choose to realign, the important thing is that you do it.

Do it to motivate yourself, every single day…

To maintain clarity on why you’re doing anything (and everything)...

To always keep your vision – your goals – top of mind, no matter what…

Realign your goals, not just once a year.

Or once a month.

Or once a week.

Every. Single. Day.

Step 3: Do the Important Things First

Now I know we said earlier that productivity is not the same as finishing a To-Do list.

That’s true… but it’s also true that everyone has important things that need to be done.

The non-negotiables. The must-haves. The key stepping stones to reaching your goals.

And those are the things that should always be done first.

Gary Keller sums it up nicely with his daily question:

“What is the one thing I can do such that, by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

Think about your “one thing” like climbing a mountain.

Your goal is easy: reach the top.

There are a ton of things to prepare to reach that goal, but consider what’s more important:

Getting in shape, buying the climbing gear, and prepping your GPS?

Or finding the perfect recipes for your mid-climb refuel?

The second option is tempting.

It’s easy, it’s painless, it doesn’t require much effort.

But that’s exactly why the first option is the better choice.

Your snack choices won’t get you to the peak… but stamina, endurance, and strength will.

Figure out what you need to reach your goal…

Block out focused time daily to do those tasks…

And always – always – prioritise those tasks over the other ones.

Do the important things first.

The life-changing things.

The goal-reaching things.

The “move-the-needle” things.

Anything outside of that can wait.

Step 4: Detach from Perfectionism

People focused on growth can struggle with the idea that everything needs to be perfect.

Perfectionism fills your mind with mantras like:

  • Never make mistakes.

  • Succeed on the first try.

  • Avoid failure at all costs.

  • Know what’s “right” from the get-go.

Those perfectionistic ideas?

All bullshit.

Perfection is a lie that promotes stagnancy and limits progress.

One of the best things you can do for your productivity – and honestly for your mental well-being – is to ditch the idea of perfection.

Let go of the idea that everything you do needs to be perfect.

Accept that many of the things you try will fail.

And accept it as part of your journey.

Sure, you’ll fail at some things.

A few times, probably.

But that’s fine when you let go of perfection.

Embracing that “done” is better than “perfect”, means you’ll get back up every time.

And you’ll keep on going, better than before.

Step 5: Schedule Distractions

The device that you’re reading this newsletter on is full of possibilities.

Instant access to information…

Immediate connection to loved ones…

Entertainment, engagement, excitement galore...

But it’s also a massive source of distraction.

52% of Australians admitted that their phones and social media are to blame for work distractions.

(They also said they’d be less distracted at work if they were happier with their jobs… but that’s a discussion for another time).

Sure, distractions can waste your time… but they do so much more than that, too.

They steal your focus.

They snatch your ambition.

They rob you of reaching your goals.

Social media, Slack notifications, and emails all have a time and a place.

And the reality is that you will get distracted at one point or another.

We’re all human, and humans get distracted.

They lose steam…

They need a mindless scroll palate cleanser…

But, by scheduling and inducing your distractions, you take control.

You call the shots for when, why, and how long the distraction happens.

You feel empowered to say “No, now’s not the time. I will keep going until I give myself the green light for distraction.”

Put time in your calendar to answer your emails, check Instagram, or see what’s new on YouTube.

Then don’t stray from that schedule.

Don’t sacrifice your commitment to productivity.

And don’t give distractions the opportunity to randomly sabotage you.

It might be hard, at first.

…but nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Step 6: Track and Measure Your Progress

Now this step is crucial for improving your productivity because it addresses a key concept that we haven’t touched on yet.

Motivation.

7Xing your productivity in 60 days, from start to finish, is a journey…

It’s tough…

It’s challenging…

It pushes your boundaries…

That’s why it’s worth it.

But that’s also why people quit.

They quit because they’re not seeing the results they wanted.

But you can’t see results without tracking and measuring progress right from the start.

Tracking your results is a key motivator to continue on your productivity journey.

Progress tells you, “This is worth it.”

Progress makes you think “If I’m seeing these results now, imagine if I keep going.”

Progress encourages you to feel motivated to keep going, keep trying, and keep showing up.

Without measuring your progress, you’ll never fully understand the impact.

The impact on your self-improvement, your goals, your dream life.

Seeing results is a motivator, so give yourself that motivation.

Start the week by writing out a plan.

Evaluate on the “success” of that plan at the end of the week.

Reflect on the “wins,” reconsider the things you might improve on, and start again next week.

Tracking progress keeps you going because you’re seeing real, measurable results.

And that feeling just can’t be beat.

60 days.

To some, it might seem like a long time.

To others, it might feel like the blink of an eye.

But 60 days can be your turning point…

Your stepping stone…

Your launching pad to a whole new world of productivity… a whole new world of success.

Each of the six steps introduces important mindset shifts, concepts, and ideas that can propel you forward into the life you’ve always dreamed of.

But you can’t half-ass it.

It’s a commitment.

All six steps. All 60 days. One day at a time.

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out, without fail.

Commitment and consistency are what lead to transformation.

So don’t wait.

Your 60 days start now.

Stay awesome, stay powerful.
